Can you insulate walls that are already finished?

Yes. Wall insulation fills the empty spaces inside your exterior walls, so a Fort Worth house with bare walls stops soaking up heat in summer and losing it in winter, and on a finished wall we can usually do it without tearing the wall out.

Most calls start with one room that never matches the rest of the house, or a power bill that keeps climbing even after the attic was done. The price mostly moves with how much wall you have, which side we work from, whether old insulation has to come out first and how the holes get finished. The schedule turns on whether we're timing the work with new siding or a remodel, and on anything we find that has to be fixed before insulation goes in. I'll give you your own number when I come out and look at the walls.

How we do wall insulation

I start by looking for the reasons a wall feels bad before anything goes in, like a leak that's wet the framing, gaps at the outlets or old insulation slumped at the bottom. If a roof or window leak needs fixing first, I'll tell you, because insulation over wet wood won't do much for your house. Then we talk through working from inside or outside, and if new siding is on the way, we time the wall work with it so your walls only get opened once. On inside jobs we cover the floor, set up to keep the dust in the room we're working in and go over how the holes will be finished before we drill. We fill each cavity top to bottom and check the edges and corners, since that's where thin spots usually hide.

Wall work usually connects to a couple of other jobs. Insulation slows heat but doesn't stop air from moving through gaps, so air sealing services, which close those gaps before we insulate, often matter as much as the fill itself. If part of your house has walls against the ground, basement insulation handles those walls differently, because they deal with moisture from the soil.

Wall insulation in Fort Worth homes

Fort Worth applies its own energy code, the national model code with local changes, to how homes are designed and built. What that means for your particular wall job is the city's call, so before work starts we check with the city's building office about what the job needs and take care of any permit and inspection on our end. We do the same in the other cities we work in around Fort Worth, since each one has its own building office.

A lot of what we see here is older houses with little or nothing in the exterior walls, often with siding that's close to due for replacement, which makes it a good moment to fill the walls. We meet the same kinds of houses on jobs in Haltom City and North Richland Hills, and the work goes the same way there.

Why call us for wall insulation

  • I do the estimate myself

I come out to look at your walls and give the estimate, and I'm on the job with our install crew when the work happens. The person who explained the plan is the one making sure it gets followed.

  • Problems found before insulation

We look for leaks, wet framing and open gaps before any insulation goes in, and if something needs fixing first, I'll say so plainly. Insulation laid over a problem nobody checked won't help you much.

  • In business since 2020

I left an office job to learn insulation on a Fort Worth crew and started this business in 2020. I explain each job the way I'd want it explained to me, so you understand your house a little better when we leave.

  • Fully licensed and insured

We're fully licensed and insured. If your Fort Worth house was built before 1980, lead safety rules can come into play depending on how much inside and outside wall the work disturbs, so we weigh that when we choose a side.

Frequently asked questions

How do you insulate walls that are already finished?

Most finished walls are insulated with drill and fill, where small holes near the top of each wall cavity let us fill it with blown-in insulation, loose fill blown through a hose. The holes can go in either the inside wall or the outside wall, so the wall itself stays put. If old, worn batts are already in there, they can block the new fill, and one way around that is cutting out a strip of wall near the floor to pull them out first.

What is the best way to insulate a finished wall, from inside or outside?

Inside is often the simpler choice, because it leaves the drainage plane, the layer behind your siding that sheds water, untouched. Blowing from outside breaks that layer wherever the wall has one, so it has to be patched or replaced. That makes outside work the better fit mainly when the inside is hard to get to or the siding is coming off anyway.

Will insulating my walls from the inside make a mess?

There's some dust, but it should stay in the room we're working in. Installer guidance calls for protecting the floor below the work and using containment to keep dust and debris from spreading, the same setup described above. Afterward the holes are patched or covered with a chair rail molding, and we'll settle which one you want before we drill.

How much does wall insulation cost in Fort Worth?

Spray foam insulation in the Dallas-Fort Worth area usually costs about $1 to $5 per square foot, which is the going range around here and not a quote from us. That range covers spray foam, so a blown-in wall fill, the amount of wall and the side we work from will all move your number. I'll give you your own figure after I've seen the walls.

Should I insulate my walls when I get new siding?

Yes, if the walls are wood-frame and empty, that's the easiest time to do it. ENERGY STAR recommends that whenever siding comes off an uninsulated wood-frame wall, the sheathing gets drilled and the empty cavity filled with blown insulation before the new siding goes on. Let us know your siding dates early so our part fits between the old siding coming off and the new going on.

How do I make sure blown-in wall insulation doesn't settle?

Ask how the installer fills each cavity completely, because blown-in insulation has to go in dense enough that it won't settle and leave empty spots. It can reach odd-shaped and hard-to-reach cavities, but any gaps cut into what the job does for your house. I'm glad to walk you through how we fill and check each one.

  • Air sealing services

Drafts often come through gaps at outlets, trim and plumbing that wall insulation alone won't stop, so sealing them gives the new fill a fair chance to work.

  • Basement insulation

If part of your house sits below ground, those walls hold back soil and moisture, and they need a different approach than the framed walls above them.
