Is your attic the reason the upstairs runs hot?

Attic insulation in Fort Worth is the layer over your ceiling that slows heat moving from a hot attic into the rooms below, so the upstairs stays closer to what the thermostat says. How well it slows heat is its R-value. Most of the job is getting the attic ready so the new layer can do its work.

Most people call us because the upstairs is hot by afternoon, one room never matches the rest, or the power bill keeps climbing with the thermostat set the same. The price turns on the size of the attic, how many inches are already up there, whether the old layer is good enough to stay and how many gaps need attic air sealing first. The schedule mostly depends on what has to be fixed before anything goes down. If there's a roof leak, for example, that gets repaired first. The on-site estimate is where you get the figure for your own house.

How we handle attic insulation, in order

I start in your attic with a flashlight and a tape measure. I check how much insulation is up there and what shape it's in, then tell you plainly whether adding more is worth it, because sometimes it isn't. I also look for anything that has to be fixed before a new layer goes down: wet or matted insulation, moldy or soft rafters, a bath fan blowing into the attic instead of outside, blocked eave vents and old knob and tube wiring. Any leaks or damage get dealt with first. If the problem is the roof, I'll tell you to call a roofer before you spend money with us. Then our crew seals the gaps around pipes, wires, the hatch and the light fixtures. We keep the insulation back from the eave vents and from any can lights that aren't rated for contact, and we lay the new layer evenly from edge to edge, so the outer walls get the same depth as the middle.

Most attics get topped up with blown-in insulation, which is loose fill blown through a hose. We use it because it settles around joists and into corners better than rolls do. If the drafts and hot rooms go past the attic, into walls or floors, we look at it through our home insulation work instead of just adding depth overhead.

Attic insulation in Fort Worth and what changes the job here

Texas lets a city or county add its own amendments to the energy code. In some counties those changes can't make the efficiency rules any weaker, so what applies to your house can be stricter than a general guide suggests. That's one reason we check with your city's building office before the work starts to find out what the job needs, and we take care of any permit and inspection on our end. It's also worth calling your electric utility before we begin. Many utilities offer rebates for a home energy assessment and for some air sealing and insulation work, and that's easier to set up before the job than after.

Around Fort Worth we often find a few inches left from when the house was built. It's usually packed down and thin along the eaves, with ductwork running right through it. We see the same thing on jobs in Haltom City and North Richland Hills, and we work in the same order there. We seal first, repair next and insulate last.

Why call us for attic insulation

  • I give the estimate myself

I come out, go up in your attic and price the job myself, and I run the work alongside our install crew. That way, the person who found the problem is the one who makes sure it gets fixed.

  • Learned the trade in Fort Worth

I left an office job to learn insulation on a Fort Worth crew, and I've run this business since 2020. That's six years in attics that bake every summer, so I know what a thin layer up there costs you.

  • Coverage you can ask about

We're fully licensed and insured. You should ask anyone you let into your attic about that, and I'm glad to answer it at the estimate.

  • You see the finished attic

Satisfaction guaranteed on every job. Before we leave, I show you what we sealed and how deep the new layer runs, so you understand your house a little better than before.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my attic needs more insulation?

If the insulation is level with the tops of the floor joists or below them, your attic probably needs more. A quick look through the hatch with a flashlight is usually enough to tell. The ENERGY STAR attic check walks you through it if you'd like to look before we come out.

Should air sealing come before attic insulation?

Yes, seal first and insulate second. Air leaking up through the ceiling carries heat straight past the insulation, and once a deep layer covers the gaps they're hard to find. If you have gas appliances, you can have them tested before and after sealing to make sure they still vent properly, because a tighter house can sometimes pull exhaust back inside.

Can new insulation go over the old insulation in my attic?

Usually, yes, as long as the old layer is dry, clean and in good shape. If it's been soaked, matted or full of droppings, insulation removal comes first and adds to the cost, because new material on top just buries the problem. You can also mix types, such as loose fill over batts, but batts laid over loose fill need to be unfaced, with no paper or foil backing.

How much does attic insulation cost in Fort Worth?

Across the US, blown-in attic insulation usually costs about $4 to $7.50 per square foot installed. That's a national market figure, not our price. Removal, repairs and heavy sealing are what push a job toward the top of that range, and the estimate gives you the number for your house.

What should I do if my attic has old vermiculite insulation?

Leave it alone and get it tested, because vermiculite, the pea-size, flaky gray insulation, may contain asbestos. Your local health department can point you to an approved lab, and we won't disturb it until the results are back. It adds one calm step at the start of the job, and it's the safe way to begin.

Is spray foam or blown-in better for a Fort Worth attic?

For most attics, sealing the gaps and topping up with blown-in loose fill is the better buy. Foam costs more, but it seals air while it insulates, so it starts to make sense when your ductwork runs through the attic. I'll tell you which one fits once I've seen your attic.

  • Blown-in insulation

When the old layer is sound but too thin, loose fill can go right on top and reach the low edges along the eaves that are hard to cover by hand.

  • Home insulation

When cold floors or a drafty room over the garage can't be blamed on the attic alone, we look at the whole house so your money goes where the heat escapes.
